Yes, I know that there are more full-length features when it comes to anime. I know about Akira, Ghost in the Shell, FF: The Spirits Within, ALL OF THE MIYAZAKI STUFF, etc. That's not the question though. I would also like to point out that you really need to watch BOTH of these before making a real decision here. Otherwise we'll just take your decision for the BS that it is.
That being said, vote and tell what you liked/disliked about BOTH.
P.S.: For those few of you that care, my opinion will come in a later post.

Okay, one might think that my opinion on this would be bias but it isn't. I love both Final Fantasy and Shirow Masamune. I couldn't really pick a favorite because I do so love my Ghost in the Shell.
But anyway.
Appleseed was good don't get me wrong, I loved the fact that people still knew what Appleseed was, enough to care about remaking it. I just think, personally, that the original animation was better than the CG. I guess I'm just a traditionalist but I would have liked to see it re-animated with ink instead of CG. I loved that fact that Masamune took an active role in the production, adding and taking away things that made the original story run smoother and could portray it to a larger audience who hadn't seen the original. But over all I liked Advent Children more.
Those of you who know me personally, know that I am a Final Fantasy fan-boy to the bitter end. I didn't however want to see the movie when it first came out, Artemi can attest to this. I didn't want the story to go any further because I thought that what Square did with it in the first place was enough. It is the highest grossing Final Fantasy, in terms of sales to date, and that is for a reason.....basically, if it ain't broke don't fix it.
It did however lay to rest alot of the questions that some of the FF fans where having as far as the end of the story went. What happened to Rufus after the whole ordeal. Where did Cloud end up going after Sephiroth of "defeated". They said in the game that JENOVA wasn't destroyed, just changed form like the energy she transformed into...where is she now? Stuff like that. Not to mention I thought that the CG in Advent Children was better done than the CG in Appleseed. It was alot smoother.
The only thing that I really had against Advent Children was that it was propagating the continuance of a story that should have ended awhile ago as far as the fans are concerned.

I never saw "Appleseed", so my vote is a little skewed. But I was greatly impressed with Advent Children. There was so much that could have gone wrong, but didn't. It stayed even and steady all the way through.
And there was the scene with the victory ring tone... LOL.

Alright, now that somebody has at least spoken up, I feel that it is right to enter my opinion.
My vote for Appleseed is also not based out of bias toward FFVII (as some may think). My vote comes from having watched both and feeling that Advent Children left a good deal to be desired. This line of thought is spurred through my feeling that Advent Children was merely meant to appease the rabid fans who wanted an FFVII sequel.
Under this line of thought, I went in doubting the outcome. Because of that, I took a more skeptical approach to the feature. The CG was good and the story matched up with the game pretty well, but I was comparing it to Appleseed throughout the entire movie! Every time that I did so, I found Appleseed to be cooler in my opinion.
Who is the cooler lead character: Duenan or Cloud? My vote goes to Duenan by a long shot.
Which has the better soundtrack? My vote goes to Appleseed and the Boom Boom Satellites over Advent Children's Nubuo Uematsu Remixes and FFVIIesque music (although One Winged Angel paired with the final battle was still awesome... even if predictable).
What about cooler villains? I was a HUGE fan of General Uranus and his Olympus Regular Army. I suppose that I have a thing for villains that are misguided, but then turn to the side of good. I also liked Hades, but he and Sephiroth felt too similar to me... I don't like my villains to be too full of evil or hate.
Then, Fenrir or the Landmates? Bottom line... FENRIR CAN'T FLY AND DOESN'T COME WITH A FRACKIN' HUGE ASSAULT RIFLE.
If have questions... feel free to ask.

My vote for Advent Children is not for my love of the Final Fantasy series, but for the simple fact that there was not only great graphics and a good sequel plot line, but because there was throws to the fans if they could pick them up. Yes the predictability of it was there, but it was a sequel, there had to be predictability.
Appleseed on the other had was a renovation of sorts. It took an old and out-dated model and made it for current audiences. Now, this is different from a sequel so I rated it differently. There is a special place in hell where bad remakes go. Luckily this is not one of them. It was good by every standard I had set. Great animation, great plot, and great character development. The last two stand apart from where Advent Children stands in those to categories in my mind since it is a sequel it already had plot to pull from, and the characters were already developed. Now, Appleseed is a remake so it did have plot to pull from, but instead of following up the plot it took it and went, let's explain more here and change this a little.
So I may have been a little hasty in choosing, but my decision still stands.
PS. I own both and for those of you haven't seen them I will lend them to you, as long as I know you and can hand it to you.

This isn't some sort of election. This thread was started for discourse on a subject that could skirt across forum-opinion (controversy). It was not meant so that people could make basic unenlightened remarks (have you even seen Advent Children... and if you have, have you seen Appleseed?) with no backing.

If someone gives an opinion, then I would like to hear why they think that way. Conversation, not screaming, gainsay or bickering, is what we're about here.
