On the Temple of the Heavens (Rules v3.0) (Ammended 29Apr 2007)

Why is the Temple of the Heavens different? This may be the most significant question on your mind. The purpose of the Temple is simple: To bring the best roleplayers from across the interNet to play together with people they normally would not be able to play with, playing in many campaigns that would normally not be playable in the real world. As such, we have also expanded our scope to include all manner and matter of artistic endeavors, such as poetry, artwork, and fiction. There are also threads here to discuss many aspects of regular life. All this is wrapped in the theme of a Temple, lost on an empty world, and discovered by interplanar explorers. This is why the Temple of the Heavens is different, and why you should post here.
The Articles of Law Article I: Posts Section A: Spamming/Flooding Spamming is strictly phrohibited. Spamming includes double-posting, one-lining, and replying just for the post count. Flooding is a form of spam that involves repeatedly posting the same thing and creating multiple accounts. Section B: Account Flooding Creating new accounts for your use is also considered spamming. This detracts from the point of the Temple, allowing you to be as many different, irrelevant accounts as you deem fit. One is enough. Section C: Post Counts Many boards here do not contribute towards your post count, so that should ebb it a bit. The boards that have post counts are all in the Celestial Maproom and in the Antechambers of Oflelia's Study. Factor in diligent Adjudicators, and we will have a spam free board for roleplayers across the worlds to enjoy! Section D: Thread Conservation Many threads exist here in the Temple. As such, you should find an existing thread to post in as opposed to starting a new one. If there is a thread that fits quite closely to what you wish to say, post there as opposed to starting a new, and irrelevant, thread. Section E: One-lining One-lining, though preferably avoided, shall be seriously dealt with in RPG threads, any debate thread (this holds doubly true of the Hall of Screams), and in the Antechambers. In these locations, support and quality are needed to qualify the post, either as a critique, valued argument, or a character action.
Article II: Content Section A: Flaming Flaming is strictly phrohibited. Flaming is just flat out being pissy with someone because they fundamentally disagree without supporting evidence, or have their own opinion. Some people have even been flamed for not posting. Section B: Flame-baiting Flaming also includes flame-baiting (goading another person into flaming you). Flaming counts also as spamming, for Repercussions sake. Section C: Private Messages Flaming in PM is also against regulation, as this defiles the sanctity of the Private Message service provided here. If you are flamed in PM, notify an Adjudicator immediately. Section D: Vulgarity Vulgar language (prolific swearing OOC, obscene topics, and most any R+ language/subject matter) will not be tolerated lightly. We strive to have a diverse roleplaying audience and experience. Thus, obscene and vulgar posting will be met quickly. Section E: Impossible Avoidance If there is no possible way to avoid making a post with vulgarity in it, do warn people about it in both the subject line and the first line of the post.
Article III: Membership Section A: Lurking Thou shouldn't lurk. We invited you to the Temple to roleplay. You are here because you are good at it or something else we cover. If you don't post, how can you play? Lurking is a crime against the games and, though unpunishable (What can we do? Ban you?), we would prefer you take an active role in the Temple's future. Section B: Advanced Notice If you know your schedule will suck, or there is a problem in your household, or there is a dire emergency, or vacation, for X days on end, put a post up in the Hall of Whispers under the Announcements thread saying so. Section C: Sig Length We prefer that you keep only one image in your signature. Signature image sizes are 600w x 300h, in pixels. The maximum dimensions for your signature is 180,000 square pixels. You have 300 characters to write your sig with. No matter what size the sig is, if it causes a slidebar to appear at the bottom of the screen, you will recieve notification immediately, no graces. Lengthy Sigs impend immediate notification of the infraction and modification withing 48 hrs before being forcefully removed or resized.
Article IV: Subjection Section A: Modification These rules are subject to review and edit. This means we, as Adjudicators, may alter these rules after deliberation. If something seems wrong in the Temple, we will consult and change rules if need be. Section B: Grandfather Clause We will avoid ex post facto punishmen, unless the violation is too great to ignore. Section C: Atrocity Clause A person, from time to time, will do something so heinous and despicable that it causes a new Law to exist, all on their own. In these instances, the Adjudication of the Temple will not hesitate with exagerrated force to quell the incident.
Article V: Adjudication and Temple Gatekeepers Section A: Adjudicators Adjudicators are chosen from the members on an appointment and voluntary basis. Three Temple Gatekeepers will be appointed by the Guardian-Curator from volunteers and other capable members. There are three Adjudicators who do not moderate on the boards, but instead fill other critical duties on the site and with our images. Seven Adjudicators This is to keep our management in tune to our posting capabilities. Adjudicators are subject to Inquiry instead of normal Adjudication. Section B: Inquiry During an Inquiry, the offending member will be marked under thier name, and an Inquiry thread opened in the Hall of Prayers. Each person with a stake in the problem shall be allowed one post to state the facts they wish to bring to the attention of the person in charge of the Inquiry, called the Justicar Execute. After one week, the Inquiry will be closed, all posts assessed, and a decision reached. Section C: Temple of the Heavens Custom Signature Program ClownMaster, our Adjudicator of Images, has volunteered to make sigs at the request of our members. PM him with your specific images and he will get in touch with you when the image is done. The Standardized Length of TotHCSP Sigs is 450w x 100h, in pixels, with maximum dimensions of 45,000 square pixels.

Offenses and Repercussions There are two types of enforcement in the Temple: Regulation and Intensity. Each comes in two forms, thus: Regulated and Unregulated, Major and Minor.
Regulated vs Unregulated A regulated offense is monitored heavily by the administrators so as to protect the dignity and respect of the boards. An unregulated offense is one that goes unheeded until several instances have gone by. The number of offenses is dictated by the severity, usually 3. There are variances depending upon the behavior.
Major vs Minor A major offense is one that is handled with seriousness and all formal protocol. No leniency is allowed in any sense, and the penalties are steep and hefty. Minor offenses are less serious and tend to follow the above noted Unregulated "3 strikes policy". The two policies do stack (ie: a Minor Unregulated Offenses has a 6-Strike system.)
Examples of Offenses - Including, but not Limited to: Major Regulated Offenses: Flaming, Flame-Baiting Minor Regulated Offenses: Off-Topic Posts, Unecessary Threads, One-lining Major Unregulated Offenses: Lurking Minor Unregulated Offenses: Signature Size
Repercussions are codified by the severity of the problem, and come in sets of three. Localized Repercussions: These are offenses of the most minor nature. They tend to remain only in a confined area, or a singular person is affected/seriously impacted by them. Each Repercussion is cumulative with the prior repercussions. 1 Strike - Account Monitoring. The member will recieve a mark of Monitoring under their SN. This is accompanied with a PM to the member, privately warning them about the infraction. 2 Strike - Public Warning. This will be posted in thread and, if severe enough, locked if needed. 3 Strike - One week account disability. All required GMs will be notified, and you will thus miss posts. 4+ Strike - The Repercussions carry over to the Global Repercussions list.
Global Repercussions: These are used when the problem is of serious nature, afflicting more than one location. Also, should Localized Repercussions fail, Global Repercussions may be substituted. Each Repercussion unique, and not cumulative with the prior repercussions. 1 Strike - One week Disabilty, Account Monitoring to ensue. The member cannot post for one week and their account is monitored, effective immediately. 2 Strike - 1M Disability. The member account banned for 28 days. 3 Strike - Iconoclasm. The member is completely banned and is uninvited to return. Any subsequent attempts to rejoin will be regarded as 3 Strike Major Regulated Offenses.

The Great Foyers eunhathes, Guardian-Curator artemi, Temple Gatekeeper Atreides Conscript, Temple Gatekeeper gryphonpoet, Temple Gatekeeper
The Gate The location for all announcements, rules, guides to gaming, articles, and the News. The Hall of Whispers A general discussion thread. Post just about anything in here. One-lining and double posting are allowed, in moderation and with good purpose. Post count is disabled here. The Hall of Screams For debate. Debate is an art, not bludgeoning each other about the head with partisan logic. Please keep that in mind. The Hall of Prayers Finally, with purpose, this is a question thread. Any question is fine (rules, dating, how many kernals are in a bushel of corn), as well as requests (can you make a purple skin? can we have Mr. Green in the breakroom?)
The Celestial Maproom: eunhathes, Guardian-Curator gryphonpoet, Temple Gatekeeper
A group of roleplaying boards. Everything you will need is here. The subtitles on the page are sufficient I think to explain what each does. Just don't spam up the portfolios. The Great Tome of Souls Character portfolios for the members of the Temple, each player is expected to maintain their own portfolio. To acquire a portfolio, you must PM an Adjudicator in charge of a roleplaying thread. They will add a portfolio with you name on it, and you may then begin posting characters in it immediately. Balcony to the World This is the local, board-wide RPG. Every member of the Temple is invited and encouraged to participate in the game. The Other Boards These are the established roleplaying systems. They are the classics you have all enjoyed them, now you can play them here. Central Foyer This foyer is where Ofelia stands, monitoring all discussion over the Roleplaying games. The same rules apply to all discussion boards.
Antechambers of Ofelia's Study: eunhathes, Guardian-Curator Atreides Conscript, Temple Gatekeeper
Location where work our members do goes. Art, prose or poetry, locate it here. Again, no spamming. If you are going to critique, do so eloquently. Flaming is not a critique. Tome of Bards Location of all the poetry you can share/read. Whether its free verse, sonnets, or simply haiku, the Tome of Bards is for you. Post till your muse is exhausted. Elder's Storybook Each nation has its legends; every people, its heroes. Here, we record those stories. Put your creative fictional endeavors here. Promenade of the Masters Artful attempts and images you wish to share with the masses go here. Images can be directly linked to in this board.
The Unending Eye: eunhathes, Guardian-Curator artemi, Temple Gatekeeper
Set in the center of the eye of the Worldcage, the Temple's garden is a vast territory, unexplored yet totally chartable. If someone would take the time to do it. Discuss music, arts, non-RPGs, even other stories and books. Post counts are disabled in this section. Shrine of Servaussus Named after a great Archmage who visited the Temple, the Shrine is dedicated to the study of card games and conversations on the like are popular amongst the visitors to this particular board. Garden of Severant Idea A garden within the confines of a singular iron trellis wall where members discuss console and PC video games. Lyddes, the Illusionary Forest Whether or not it is real has yet to be determined. Just as fickle and fleeting as the movies, music, and television discussed in it, Lyddes is indeed a mysterious place. An Open Skyline Nowhere on the Worldcage is the desolation and lack of humanity more noticable than under the Eye, where visitors may gaze into the ether beyond unobstructed. It is here that people discuss and get their anime fix.

Ranking and Application Here in the temple, you may have noticed some distinct ranks; Adjudicator, Temple Gatekeeper, Darkenheart, etc. These are all attainable ranks in one form or another. You could theoretically attain every rank here in your stay, but that would be a frightening experience indeed.
Adjudicators: These people are our moderators. They keep the board in check. They have the power to lock your thread if it is off topic, or punish you if you violate the Quintalogue. Coming in sets of seven, Adjudicators are in power as long as they feel capable. They can be removed by Inquiry, suggested through other members or higher ranking Adjudicators. New ones are chosen from the list of applicants.
Temple Gatekeepers: The Gatekeepers are global, head moderators, whose influence and power is greater than that of the Adjudicators. Whereas the Adjudicators are meant to prevent the necessity for discipline, a Temple Gatekeeper takes over after this has failed. They can manage most boards with the power the Adjudicators have over one board. Temple Gatekeepers come in sets of three. Gatekeepers are permanent unless they step down or are removed via Inquiry (see above). More Gatekeepers are chosen from the Adjudicators.
Guardian-Curator: Most commonly, there will only be one of these at a time. These are the administrators who hold dominion over the board. They create new sections and boards in them per logical request and neccessity. They have no limit to their power. The Guardian-Curator is in power until they no longer feel they can maintain a schedule that allows for regular posting and roleplaying. Once they abdicate, they must choose a new Guardian-Curator from the ranks of the Temple Gatekeepers.
Loreweavers: These members have proven themselves here as capable, recurring game-masters. Anyone may declare themselves a game-master, but a Loreweaver holds competence above any of those. Loreweaver is a status automatically given to anyone who has a minimum of fifty posts. They must also have started three seperate games, in any number of systems. Each game must have been played to at least one page, or roughly 20 posts. Loreweavers are more readily identifiable and desirable to play with as, obviously, they can produce better quality games. This is the highest, non-staff rank anyone can aquire.
Archivists: It is the goal of this BBS not just to play RPGs, but also to explore all manners of gaming and creativity. Though we roleplay primarily, we also maintain a site you can connect to, though currently it is down for repairs, where articles and ideas can go if they are impractical to post here. Archivist is an automatic title given to those who have 50 posts and have contributed at least four articles to the Worldcage site. Archivists are desirable for their insight and expertise. This rank is on par with the Loreweaver.
Darkenhearts are new members, who may not particularily care about the Temple itself, and join simply to be there. To leave this rank, one simply needs to make five posts. Note that this does not mean a post count, but actual posts. A member who is Darkenheart for a month will have his or her profile deleted.
