For those of you who like black (and I know you do!), I have come up with a nice bit of black mana acceleration a la Korlash. It is by no means infinite, but getting swamps out at a quicker rate would make any black mage happy. My preliminary (all in one half-hour sitting mind you....) design is below.
Here's the game-plan:
ONE LAST THING... I call use of my own design FIRST dammit!
Any comments?
Here's the game-plan:
- Drop Korlash ASAP.
- Use any acceleration that you have available to you to find a second Korlash. Keep the Dredge mechanic in mind, but Infernal Tutor would also work unimaginable wonders here in mono black (before you drop Korlash #1, obviously).
- Pack your deck with Raise Dead, Call to the Netherworld, Macabre Waltz, and Grim Harvest.
- Stack your creature base with black support-weenie. Excellent examples are Golgari Thug, Pit Keeper, Undertaker, Nether Traitor (Shadow rules dammit), and (if you want to go expensive) creatures like Garza's Assassin, Gravedigger, and Hell's Caretaker. Also don't forget Will-o'-the-Wisp for the purposes of holding the board EARLY.
- Now we shall look into non-creature support that doesn't revolve around Korlash's Gradeur ability. I recommend Damnation because you should ideally not run out of creature return and their creatures will almost undoubtably be BIGGER than yours (except Korlash, of course!). Further, if you do run out of small creature return (shame on you for wasting Grim Harvests!), you can always run a couple Empty the Catacombs. Other heavy-hitters for your side would be Temporal Extortion and Curse of the Cabal (suspended early and outright played later... because you WILL have the swamps for it).
- Use whatever other black you want to throw in. I recommend keeping the cost at four black or below (where EVERYTHING above fits if you also count suspension cost!) for the sake of speed.
