Alright, here we go into the second expansion in the Ravnica block. Lets just say, "who's ready for some hurt?" This time around, we'll be seeing the Izzet (red and blue scientists trying to prevent natural disasters), the Gruul (broken and shattered green and red clans of barbaric like peoples) and the Orzhov (black and white church/bankers/mobsters with a notorious penchant for beautiful artwork). Some glimpses! And a guild leader! Niv-Mizzet, of the Izzet. Remember that "penchant" I was talking about: Some speculation (image)

who here has heard of the Orzhov mechanic. its called Haunt and its... interesting... to say the least.
Ex. When Creature with Haunt comes into play, some activated abilities accurs, like target player miils three, then when haunt creature dies it attaches itself to another creature, "haunting" it. When the "haunted" creature dies, the trigger ability happens again.
Intersting huh?

Thats... cool. I rather like Haunt. I can see some cool things with that. It is kind of like an aura...
I know it is not quite here yet, but my guess for the Rakdos is something definatly Suicide Black. There mechanic is going to be something like Convoke, except you can pay life for extra effects. We will call it... Blood Channel. A fireball that lets you Blood Channel for X, perhaps...

i would guess from reading the books that the rakdos are going to be more like suicide bombers. like when this creature goes to the graveyard it deals X damage to all creatures and/or players or something like that. the X is their ability number or mabe their power.

I no longer have choice in matter. I build three Guildpact decks!
1. Gruul Clan deck because I chose to ride under their banner for this set.
2. Orzhov deck because of insanely pretty artwork!
3. Izzet deck so I can't complain about cheapness... as I will have it too.
Cannot wait for Simic to come out.... Mmmm Simic.

I'm backing the Orzhov comepletely not only because of their goregous artwork or the whole idea of Haunt. But because they are effectivly the Ravnican Mofia. I don't think it's possible for me to have more fun with this ^^

Haunt (When this card is put into a graveyard from play, remove it from the game haunting target creature.) Bloodthirst X (If another player was dealt damage this turn, this creature comes into play with X +1/+1 counters) Replicate (When you play this spell, copy it for each time you paid its replicate cost. You may choose new targets for the copies.) Gigadrowse - U Instant (C) Replicate U (When you play this spell, copy it for each time you paid its replicate cost. You may choose new targets for the copies.) Tap target permanent. EDIT: Gruul Ability

Stich is rediculous!
As for Rumbling Slum > Rathi Dragon, I am not sure I agree. Sure, the Slum can do 6 damage a turn, but with the Rathi flying I think it can end the game much quicker. The drawback is certantly weaker then the Rathi's, but...
Did they change how Auras work? Wouldn't the Pillory cause the casting player to loose 1 life? Or does the change to the creature mean the "you" is the controlling player?

@arte: For instance, you Pillory my Grizzly Bears. Suddenly, my bears look like this:
On the note of Dragon.... All I have to say is Clutch of the Undercity. How many trade-offs are you willing to make?

The Orb of Insight has been posted. Raid! Also, those who were present for the reaming of the interNet over New Years, I'll be finding and posting new and impressive things that have been added since then.
