Ok, a nice debate question for all...
Are you a button masher or a calculated special move fighter when you play games like Tekken or Virtual Fighter?
I know that the only reason I was any good with Sub Zero back in the days of MK2 was because somehow I managed to freeze my opponent with all my button mashing... Other than that I am hopeless.
Let's hear your ideas...

I'll admitt it
I'm a complete button masher.
I do know some moves in Soul Calibur so what I find myself do alot with Xiangua is button mashing alot and then throwing them. I'm pretty good at pulling off throws.

When I play a game like Soul Calibur or.....Tekken.....the goal is to make the game look as good as possible while still getting the job done. Constant, random button presses do no accomplish this.
Also, someone who knows their moves and when to use them will defeat their weight in button mashers.
Ravenstorme redefined mashing for me btw.
1. Lay the controller on the ground. 2. Open palms. 3. Repeatedly pound down until the win or lose screen pops up.
THAT is button mashing. =D

I seem to recall defeting you a few times in Guilty Gear with my random button pressing.
;D
Not to mention that the peruvian has yet to defeat Xiangua in Soul Calibur 3 and he has spent alot more time practicing than I have.

You obviously weigh more then me. [/burn][/trap]
I remember those Faust matches. Haven't seen a dedicated Faust player since. =D
The peruvian plays Xiangua in SCIII and every other Calibur shes been in so its difficult to imagine him not being able to wipe the floor with any upstarts....not that Beka doesn't kick the crap out of me with Xianghua in SCII.

The pervian does not play Xiangua. I do, well, I "button mash" with her. He (The peruvian) has many hours of practice with a few different characters (I know, he spent nearly a whole day in front of my tv practicing). Yet with all his practice he is still unable to defeat me when I'm using Xiangua. So

Ok... i see that Celest has been talking behind my back, so i will now tel you all the "whole" story. Yes she button-mashes (OMFG SHE BUTTON-MASHES.) The character that i used to rock with in SCII was Talim therefore is the 1 i try to use time and again against Celest, but Talim seems to have gotten lamer in 3 (thats just my opinion), also Talims range is too short What Celest dont know is that I've been practicin' with Ivy and there is no amount of button-mashing that will get passed Ivy's range, therefore... HA!!

[/parry burn][/reversal] Finally, next time you are around Celest we'll see just how your l337 m45|-|1ng sk1||z fare against Korean Air Power. Yunsung will take all comers. Actually, that doesn't sound impossibly preposterous. We could make a team event out of it! Team Mash Master Vs. High Level Hustlers or something. You, the peruvian, shaggy, Atreides Conscript and every other girl that we know against Ukyo, Leeke, Artemi (depending on how much offense he takes at this post.XD) and myself. [/omniburn] I didn't know you folks in the north were interested in the Calibur honestly. Its good to hear, gives me hope that you folks will start having taste in video games. [/hyperburn finish] But seriously, its cool that you're playing the game. SCIII was designed to bring in as many people as possible, mashing or otherwise. =] Getting back to the subject, I mashed with Killer Instinct when it first came out. I played KI:Gold a few years ago and accomplished pretty much the same as I did mashing. I mashed with Karate Champ on the Nintendo and couldn't do any better a couple months ago when I went back to it. Draw your own conclusions.

You can all call me Cannon Fodder because I have never spent enough time on a beat em up game to really get good Anyone play Marvel vs. Capcom? Maaannn, that was a fun game Had great fun using Iron man with his particle cannon (I think)... I was a bit dissappointed with the third incarnation version on the game, if I remember correctly - I used the ultimate team of Sabretooth (love that ball of fur ) and Wolverine, and STILL got beaten I have a cute little beat em up game on my cellphone called Medieval Combat, which is easy to win in. Run up to the guy and grab him and then beat him senseless, repeat 3 times and then use your powered up skill power to finish him off - Rinse and repeat ;D I am notrious for figuring out the foot sweep in any game of the beat em up nature, because its so annoying to fight against someone that constantly does it. I'll admit, I have never played Soul Calibur

Really, for the most part the best I can get is special moves that go off mostly when I want them to. I'm not really fast enough to anything like combos too often, though. I think I would more then qualify for "Team Control" or whatever the team name ends up. Personally, I'd suggest "Team Sea Slug", but... you know how that goes.
Mashing I seem to have some trouble with, especially in Soul Caliber, which by the nature of the system I find to be a little masher friendly. With the... unpredictable nature of mashing, it makes it much more difficult to follow, leading to matches where I struggle to hang on. Of course, if you give me the chance, I can normally jump on it...

I'm not a button-masher you asshat. I don't have the names of the moves memorized like I'm some 30 year old still in his momma's basement, but I do know pretty much everything that I'm going to be doing onscreen while I'm manipulating the controller. You're just faster and more practiced. Now sod off.

Personally I am no a button masher. I'm not extremely practiced as of right now, but my boyfriend is helping me with that considering the fact that he gives Ant a run for his money on a consistent basis. (which reminds me, you need to get over here at some point so we all can have a day of just beating the ever-lovin' crap outta each other on various SNK and Capcom games.)
But the point I was trying to make here, is that button mashing or not, as long as your having fun playing it shouldn't matter what you do. Sarah in all her button mashing-ness had loads of fun, beating the shit out of her controller playing people in fighting games.

I am no button masher. With that stated I can beat the Hatter's boy toy in fighting games. So does that mean I can beat Ant, or has he just been beating me for 15 years that there is no hope anymore?
