Yes, the title was read right. I am right now in the process of making a video game. A full functioning, sprite filled, final fantasy 2 like video gaming on the computer. So why is this relevant?
I am putting this thread here to relay updates on my video game, you know progress and such. I will also use this thread to get ideas from you, the reader. If you have any ideas (such as a cool side quest or a continent map you would like to share) or if you would like one of your characters in the game, then post it here.
The game is called Tales of Brotherhood, though no official name is set. It is about a young boy named Me-toru and a boy named Sabe who are brothers but grow up apart. So far, I have one continent that is still under renovation and a single quest complete with an incomplete dungeon. I am accepting Item Ideas, weapon Ideas, Boss and enemy ideas, etc.

First of all, best of luck with your creation! I often wish that I could make my own video game, but I don't have anywhere near the programming knowledge to even begin on something as simple as an 8 bit shooter.
Next, please don't make it suck! ;D I'm not saying that you can't make a good game... but rather than I want to play it when you're done. So, I'd naturally like to play yet another good title.
Can you make a ROM that is both compatible with, and downloadable onto my PSP?
what is the bases of your two characters? if we know how you are planning on making there fighting styles, looks, ect. it will be easier to help you with items and enemys. becuase it would suck if we gave you enemys and they were to easy becuase of the character capabilities, or vise versa, two weak of items/equipment for the enemys you put into the game.
but at least you have a good start and from the knowledge that most of the people in the group know, i think you will make a good game to play.

I am unsure if I can make it into a format that would be accepted by the psp, but I can always try.
As for the characters, they are brothers. the first born (me-toru) was born in a place called Arcania. he is about a year older then his brother. His mother left arcania suddenly and never came back. Me-toru was then raised by Lady Kai, who is now the captain of the Arcania knights. At a young age Me-toru joined the knights, but never rose that high due to the constant attempts to kill himself. If it wern't for a girl named Ukiyo, who is about a year older then Me-toru, he would probably be dead now.
The younger brother (Sabe) is a demi human who was born in a farming village called Mayvelle. His mother died a couple days after giving birth so Sabe was raised by the village cheif. Growing up was tough on him, being a demi human and all, but the villagers soon grew to accept him and he became one of their own. His mother is buried just on the outskirts of the village. He visits her frequently to pray.
Me-toru is the cold, cut off, and suicidal brother while Sabe is the calm, collected, sarcastic brother.
What I have so far in the game is this:
The game opens with a short non-player moment which involves me-toru trying to commit suicide several times, and Sabe trying to adjust to the village while frequently visiting his mother. That takes about 5 - 10 minutes.
Afterwards, you awake as Me-toru in his house. Ukiyo is there and tells you that King Ramus wanted to see you. So you go off to the castle. (which is still under construction >.>). The king will be in his chambers, along with many Arcania knights. When talked to, the king will call for your help. It seems Lady Kai is indisposed with new recruits so it is up to you to stop a demon from ravaging Arcania. The demon is none other than a 9-tailed fox demon. So you rush off to the cave at the southern end of the continent and fight your first boss fight, the 9-tails.
So the best way to beat him is to use Arcana increase a couple of times then just beat him down with your sword. This is quite the easy boss fight.
After you beat the 9-tails you go back to the king and show him the 9-tails Item. He will congrats you and send you off to see Ukiyo, who is still at your house. She will chew you out about how dangerous it was to do that alone and then tell you to go get some sleep. You go over to the bed and that ends your first official quest.
Thats all I have done so far. I've been perfecting just that one section for about 5 days. It is almost done, I just have to finish constructing the castle. sprite games are fun and this one looks maybe just a tad better then Final fantasy 2 (or 4).
dude that sounds pretty good. if you do not have your event item, mabey you should make it one of the nine tales on the fox demon. it also seems that you have a good idea of your characters and how you want them to be. Congratulations man, it is not easy doing what you have done.

Ok, I've worked a bit on this game (though I haven't gone any farther storyline wise) and I decided to make random events, characters, and enemies based off of my friends and such (such as Eunhathes being an optional Side quest boss >.>) Anyways, I made some more Items, and created a magic system. Magic is obtained by various evolutions of the character. Take a basic fire spell. Once the player gets to a level, he can obtain the next evolution form of the spell, which is Fire Mk II. You obtain the next evolution form by visiting any Magic Research Factory. So you could technically be lv 99 and still just have a fire spell if you never go to a magic research factory. Each new evolution costs money.
Everything is subject to change though. I'm still working out all the bugs in the first quest.
Hmm... The only thing I think I can offer at this point is that if you are pulling from a particular world-type (for example, it seems you are pulling from a psudo-Japanese mythological feel), then to do a bit of research and try to make the whole thing consistent.
The item and spell names, the kingdoms, the monsters... they should all feel like they are from the same mythos. It makes the whole world feel much more connected, and makes it easier to highlight differences if they come up later (this woman uses a straight sword and comes from the mysterious western-like continent! And she wears super heavy armor and uses a shield! Ooh, special~!).
Wow haven't posted here in this thread for a while. So, let me begin with the updates.
I currently upgraded to rpg maker XP. This means the game will look 20x better. Now I was tooling around and such and I came up with this storyline for my game in rpg maker XP. I doubt it is the best storyline ever, But I think it is pretty good. BTW, I kinda lost the files for tales of brotherhood when my moms computer got wiped so that's why I upgraded and went with this storyline (several days worth of work gone in an instant, it sucks v.v;;
Second Reality Louis Wacker
In our universe there exists to realms. The realm in which humans live is known as Plus, while the realm in which dark horrors live is called Minus. These two worlds exist parallel to one another, divided by a barrier known as the Dimensional Rift. The Plus side had technology, civilization, and order. However, within the Minus there existed only chaos and destruction. The driving force behind this was Magic. While the Plus had no magical energy, the Minus was swelling with it. This would change.
A giant meteor crashed into the Plus and temporarily split the rift. From that hole, several Horrors were released into the Plus. The horrors attacked cities and killed many humans. The humans, with their science, created artificial humans with Horror like abilities, even a mimic of magic. They fought with the horrors and managed to drive them back into the Minus. The rift was sealed and the Plus was at peace. However, this peace would not last forever.
Aside from the Horrors, something else escaped from the Minus, Magic. More importantly a Magic Crystal appeared in the Plus. A young revolutionary by the name of Yui found this crystal and was infused with great magical energy. He formed together a nation and gave the power of magic to his soldiers. He waged a campaign against all other life in the Plus. Everyone was already tired from the Horrors and could barely fight back. Just before the fall of the Plus, a mysterious hero appeared. He fought back the evil armies and then fought with Yui for 3 days and 3 nights. In the end, they both could not kill each other. Instead, they sealed each other into a pendant. The pendant was lost in history, and the Plus enjoyed many peaceful days.
Leon Creed, Age 17. This name is probably one of the most famous names in the plus to date. Leon’s birth came 500 years after the great war, and he is considered a Genius in the art of sword fighting. He became the Cross Royal Knight’s commander at 15, and has only been defeated in combat by a grand total of 3 people. His most loyal knights are Jason Tesmit, Leia Tesmit, and Colbolt Juar. Together they served in Numina’s army. Numina was ruled by king Rosiel and everyone loved him. Leon looked up to him as a father figure and didn’t hesitate to obey his orders.
One day, after clearing the forest from monsters, Leon came upon a Horror. He easily dispatched it, but not before learning some terrible news. The king was planning on conjuring several more Horrors. Leon couldn’t believe it and rushed back to the castle to find out the truth. He went to the kings chambers and stumbled upon a strange mirror. This mirror teleported him to a strange inverted area, later to be known as the Dark Zone. After fighting off several Horrors, Leon confronted the king.
Rosiel told Leon everything. He was planning on summoning Horrors to do his bidding, but he was also planning a special summoning of one of the most powerful Horrors in existence. Leon pleaded with him to stop but the King merely attacked Leon. Distraught, Leon fought back. During the fight, Jason, Leia, and Colbolt showed up to aid him. Unfortunately, their combined strength was not enough to take down the magical power of Rosiel. Jason, Leia, and Colbolt were killed and Leon was badly wounded. Before Rosiel could land a final blow, He was teleported to safety. Rosiel, however, found he could not complete his summoning of the Horrors. He was missing one component, the Yin Yang Pendant. However, the person whom possessed it had just teleported away. Leon was put on the most wanted list and his life as a fugitive begun there.
Now I wan't some imput on the storyline, as my creative talent in this area sucks ass. Graphics are my thing really. So please tell me what you liked and didn't like about the storyline and I can tool it. Anyways, when I get the opening done, I'll post it here for you all to see. Think of it like a trailer or something.
If you don't mind me bringing it up... What are you using to create the game? E.g. Visual Studio? Game maker? Delphi?
