Anyone still playing these?
I recently picked up Europa Barbarorum, a mod for R:TW. Those of you who are even remotely wargamers (I'm looking at you, Antaeus) owe it to yourselves to do the same. It turns the game from a damn fine bit of fun to a ridiculously awesome historical rampage. The modders are bloody insane; they've got Ph.D.s working on historical research for the damn thing. They redubbed the voices, for crying out loud, IN PERIOD LANGUAGES.
It's ludicrously awesome. I've been playing as the Greeks (sorry, as the Hellenes, and let me tell you, Spartiatai are no joke. Though I see why they eventually fell from power; the Makedonian hammer-and-anvil of heavy cavalry and Makedonian phalanx is just too damn good.
They do an excellent job of recreating the problems of supply and keeping lines of communication without bogging the game down into a logistical nightmare the likes of which only professional soldiers can deal with, too, which is tough. Try supplying an invasion of Sicily from Greece without having secured the ports on the southern tip of Italy; it's no joke.

Alas I've been called out.
Ukyo's been on my case to start playing the Total War games. Specifically Medieval II and the original Shogun. Guess its time to get off my duff about it as I'm apparently missing out.
