Okinawa is really not all it's cracked up to be.
It's touted as "the Japanese Hawai'i", a paradise of white sand, blue water, and pure sunlight. Well, white sand it's got. The water ranges from an impossible blue-green that I didn't think really existed to a dark bluish grey, depending on the extremely fickle weather. The sun... is out. Sometimes. When it's out, it's hot as hell. When it's not, it's still hot as hell, but muggier. Unless it's raining. The weather is most pleasant when it rains.
Once you get away from the (quite pervasive) American military presence, what you find is reminiscent of Mexico, if Mexico were Japanese. Most of the island, from what I can tell, is a very low-density, very poor urban sprawl. The terrain is fairly hilly so I don't recommend trying to navigate on foot unless you have thighs the size of a rhinoceros.
And they don't seem to play go. Or have anything you can buy that isn't made of plastic.
This has been another Temple of the Heavens location exclusive. From Kadena Air Force Base, Okinawa, Japan, I'm Curulambe.

How much access do you have to the island itself? I've always wondered if Akihabara was as crazy as it is said to have been... Swing by there if you get the chance, would you?
